Programs -PI KIDS

Program Description

This class introduces the concepts of the Raspberry Pi to beginners. We will first start with setting up the Raspberry Pi to monitors and teaching the kids what exactly you can do with the Raspberry Pi and the endless inventions you can create. Then we will get into projects and see which of the two projects the kids vote for, depending on which project the kids vote for we will gather the materials required and start building the project. We will then show the kids the different parts of the Raspberry Pi and what those parts do. We will further go into details on how to use the Raspberry Pi. At the end of each class, we will provide a mini google form that the students can fill out describing what they learned from that day.

PI KIDS Global Launch-India

Our First International Workshop in Kolkata, India on July 6th! We loved the fact that Kids (who are not so privileged to learn technology) enjoyed our long session and wanted to do more!!

Our Approach

We know schools can help improve students educations and overall quality of life, but the question is can we help improve the schools themselves? Well first off, we can raise awareness to this national crisis and increase teacher pay lower class sizes and get these schools additional resources like more counselors and extra help. On top of that getting more females into other fields of careers like engineering and totally changing the perspective people have on who can do what and what they can’t.

Though we cannot make a big change in a day, we can try to resolve a tiny part of the problem. From the facts and research, we see The Education Opportunity Gap is getting lager every year! We need to think of bringing the Gap.

As a first step, we can spread the awareness of unequal opportunity. Human minds will start thinking for an improvement – this mind changer is key to any revolution. Awareness itself will reduce the gap day by day!

Information and right guidance is the Key to success! My plan is to create and provide a platform to the under privileged society for free – providing school guidance, college counselling, guidance to the right career path will open doors for many students!

Build the education, career and college advising community together :

  • In my project plan I have a technical solution in my mind. Creating a platform to onboard successful college students, interns, school counsellors, college counsellors, career professionals who are willing to provide their valuable time as volunteer hours and provide insights to the under privileged school districts will be the first skeleton.
  • Students thrive for an opportunity!!
  • The platform will create an opportunity to onboard the students from underprivileged districts and get a free service like a uber rider. Right guidance, counselling and information sessions by our successful counselors will bring a hope and motivation to the students who needs the most.

In a recent study teachers in Atlanta had to help students cheat on standardized test to improve their overall funding, a few teachers were imprisoned because of that for more than 20 years which is in fact more years than a second-degree murder. This just goes to show that despite the fact that teachers are battling for their schools so they can get more pay we still don’t see the issue in it. To government officials a teacher trying to improve their schools education is equivalent to second degree murder.

What Librarians, Students and Parents are Saying

This class was really engaging. It was a great way for kids who weren’t familiar with the Raspberry Pi to get involved and learn more about it. And I think all the participants had a really great time.

Librarian , Hayward Public Library, Hayward, CA

“What I like about the Raspberry Pi is that it’s like, it’s the computer itself at. I never knew that in first place at the computer already with everything and stuff surprises me. I think that I like about the p&i kids workshop is that you have had a lot of fun and it’s stuff. Like I said, I never knew that they had like a little thing going. So we have to connect and everything to start a computer to work.”
 Thank you

“I liked about this class, because the
teachers come to terms, which is my
favorite subject. And what about the
Raspberry Pi? I learned that it was a
whole computer that was just a tiny like board.”

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE CLASS

The Raspberry Pi is a very interesting class. This class was very fun because we downloaded and played a lot of games on the Raspberry Pi like Minecraft. Not only did we get to play games, but we also coded on the Raspberry Pi. This is very interesting and cool because the games were fun and the coding was very interesting. This is an awesome class and the instructors are super friendly and resourceful. That’s the reason I joined this team to be awesome and learn to code while having fun!!

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND THE CLASS

The Raspberry Pi is an enjoyable, fun class; you should attend it! In the classes, you get to play games and code apps! Another time in the class, we downloaded Pac-Man on the Raspberry Pi! There were many more fun things we did. You should attend this class right now, this is the most fun computer programming class I have ever been to!

Biblioteca Library, San Jose, CA

I think it’s a very interesting program and I think all libraries should start introducing something to do with programming sooner or later because this is the way the future is and I think that’s the way we should go. Thank you!

Sidika (Mohammed and Ali’s mother)

This is Valley Stream Library, my name is Mamie! It’s very rewarding to have these Pi kids come and teach our students Raspberry Pi! There is a lots of enthusiasm and it’s so rewarding to see how this team wants to give back! Thank you for introducing our students to Raspberry Pi! We had 14 children attended the first session and 12 children attended the second session. It was a success and children enjoyed it. I will contact the youth coordinator at the Nassau Library System and let her know about your program and hopefully, you will be able to repeat these classes at other local libraries. Thank you again for your enthusiasm , patience, time and effort.”
